UK Site-Based Roles – Immediate Starts Available

We are actively recruiting Site Operatives to join our teams, with immediate starts available. Our projects are based across the UK, so you must be willing to work away from home when required. Project locations will vary, and you may be working in different parts of the country from one week to the next. For all site roles, company vehicles, tools, equipment & lodge are provided.

Experienced Operatives – Foremen / Operative

We are looking for skilled and experienced operatives in:

• Safety Netting

• Metal Decking

• Stud Welding

You must hold the relevant, valid qualifications and certifications, along with previous site experience.

Trainee Operatives

No previous experience? We're also keen to hear from people looking to get into the industry and learn the trade. You will need to be willing to travel and work away from home, have a good attitude towards learning and be prepared to complete the required CSCS/H&S qualifications during your initial induction. We'll provide the training and support you need to develop your skills and gain the relevant qualifications. Commercial Coordinator (Assistant QS) – Midlands Contracts Team (Huthwaite)

We are looking for a proactive and organised Commercial Coordinator (Assistant QS) to join our Midlands Contracts Team. You will be responsible for supporting the commercial delivery of multiple construction projects, ensuring contracts are managed efficiently and in line with company procedures. Working closely with the Commercial Manager, Construction Managers and wider Contracts Team, the role involves valuations, purchase orders, procurement support, contract administration and commercial coordination across live projects. This role is suited to someone who enjoys working within a team environment, has strong attention to detail and is looking to continue developing within a commercial construction role.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial aspects of assigned contracts in line with company procedures and processes.

• Prepare and complete monthly valuations accurately and within agreed timescales.

• Oversee the preparation and management of purchase orders and invoices, ensuring all documentation is checked accurately prior to approval.

• Support the procurement of goods and services required for contract delivery.

• Maintain accurate and up-to-date commercial data within internal systems (Connect+).

• Review customer orders and estimates, ensuring key commercial information and risks are communicated clearly within the team.

• Proactively manage commercial queries and support the timely agreement of final accounts.

• Attend customer meetings and internal operational meetings where required.

• Participate in weekly debtor meetings and complete agreed follow-up actions.

• Work closely with commercial, operational and accounts teams to support successful contract delivery.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• Minimum 1 years’ experience in a commercial or Assistant QS role within construction.

• Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.

• Good communication and teamwork skills.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (particularly Outlook, Word and Excel)

Desirable

• HNC/HND or equivalent in a relevant discipline.

• Quantity Surveying qualification or working towards one.

• Experience using AutoCAD.

Please note this role is full-time and office-based in Huthwaite, therefore applicants should be within a reliable commuting distance of the office.

This is a 12-month fixed-term contract to provide maternity cover, with an anticipated start date in October/November to allow for a full handover. As a growing business, there may be opportunities to extend the contract or secure a permanent role within SMD elsewhere in the company, subject to business needs.

If you're more hands-on, you might be a great fit for one of our site teams — some of the best in the business (if we do say so ourselves). You'll be installing metal decking and related systems to a top-quality standard, working closely with our contract teams to get the job done right.

Experience in construction helps, but we don't expect you to know everything about metal decking when you start. We care more about what you bring to the team.
