Technical Guidance Notes

7.7 - Acoustics

The acoustic performance of a composite slab is a function of both the mass of the slab and the floor and ceiling finishes applied. Robust Standard Details are available to provide performance in accordance with Building Regulations Part E utilising a number of different finishes for both the ceiling and floor. The detailing of such finishes is key to provide the acoustic performance required.

For guidance relating to the acoustic performance of a bare composite slab, contact SMD [mailto:technical@smdltd.co.uk?Subject=Technical%20Info%20Query(online)-Acoustics&body=%20 Technical Team]. It should be noted that for more extensive guidance, an acoustic specialist may be required.

In addition, there is a useful industry tool available for calculating the performance of a composite slab on the steelconstruction.info website. This is based on a number of industry tests and case studies undertaken.
