Unexpected delivery costs?

In construction, keeping to schedule can make a huge difference in both time and cost. So, what can you do to minimize disruptions and avoid costly mistakes?

We’re well-drilled at adapting to unexpected situations and finding the best solutions, but there are steps our clients can take to help their construction sites run smoothly. Over the years, we’ve found that deliveries are a common source of disruption. Whether it’s unscheduled extra loads or late arrivals causing delays, we’ve developed strategies to address these issues.

Schedule All Deliveries.

Trades on-site can only plan around deliveries that are scheduled in advance—ideally as early as the tender stage. If your site has restrictions like limited laydown areas or a tricky entrance, it’s crucial to flag these issues upfront. For example, knowing about space limitations might mean splitting deliveries into smaller, phased loads instead of delivering everything at once.

These details can significantly impact the schedule. Without proper planning, on-site workers might end up waiting for the next load before they can continue their tasks.

Keep Us Informed About Project Phases.

Staying updated on project phases is vital for efficient deliveries. If your project has multiple phases, letting us know early helps us coordinate better. For example, if a contract involves 1500m2 of material, we typically plan two deliveries, as an articulated lorry can carry 1000m2. If we later learn during the design stage that the project requires three 500m2 deliveries, this can change the logistics. Additional deliveries will result in additional delivery costs to reflect the new delivery requirements or it will be the responsibility of our customer to deal with surplus material on-site, which can cause its own problems.

Plan ahead.

With over 30 years of experience, we’ve seen it all and can adapt to last-minute changes in the most cost-effective way possible. Providing all necessary information during the tender stage allows us to factor in specialist delivery instructions and avoid inconvenient site disruptions. By working together, we can ensure your project runs as efficiently as possible.
