Void protection must be positioned to all internal voids to prevent falls from height. Where applicable, Edge Protection must be in place prior to the decking Installation commencing. Should handrails not be present, various methods can be used to eliminate the hazard of open voids.

Handrails - Most common, larger voids must have hand rails installed either prior to the decking or before the nets are dropped.

VoidSafe® Protection System - An SMD product option for small voids. Can significantly improve site logistics and access throughout the floor area, eliminating the use of handrails and additional trades, reduces program times and additional trade costs.

Timber covers - Small voids may be boarded out following the installation of deck and trim but before the removal of safety netting.

Deck over small voids and openings - Prevents operatives, sparks, materials and fixings from falling and reduces requirement for edge protection. Box out during concrete placement and cut out later.

Scaffold and boards for finger beams - Finger Beams require careful consideration to ensure that safe access & fall protection is provided. The use of under slung scaffold crash decks is the best option as it provides collective, passive protection to all trades.

Ensure good Heath and Safety is maintained - Ensure that edge protection is inspected, complete and secure on completion, before use and at 7 days intervals.
